Questions

It’s best to place your order as early as possible, especially if you’d like custom decorations. Weekends (Friday through Sunday) and holidays can book up a week or more in advance. For signature or classic decorations, 1 to 2 days is typically enough notice, but again the earlier the better! If we can accommodate a last-minute order, we will, so don’t hesitate to call. Please understand that if we can’t, it’s because we are truly at our maximum capacity.

Absolutely! We bake lots of cupcakes every morning to accommodate same-day requests and sudden cupcake cravings! We have Sampler boxes (a dozen mini or regular cupcakes in assorted flavors) packed and ready to go as well as individual cupcakes for sale when we open at 10 am, Wednesday through Sunday. Give us a call to see what’s available. Given current COVID-19 restrictions, we can build a box for you over the phone with prepayment, and you can pick it up curbside. If you’re looking for something specific or personalized, we recommend placing a cupcake order in advance.

Yes! Our cupcakes can be enjoyed by those with peanut and tree nut allergies, and can be safely brought to parties and events requiring nut-free treats.

A note about coconut: Although the word “nut” is in its name, a coconut is a fruit, NOT a nut. In 2006, the FDA began classifying coconuts as tree nuts despite confirming that coconuts are not nuts and not a major food allergen. There are ongoing efforts to get the FDA to correct their misclassification of coconuts to eliminate consumer confusion.

We do use shredded coconut in 2 of our signature cupcakes: Coconut Snowball and Chocolate Coconut Cream, and occasionally in our rotating Flavor of the Month. We will always clearly state when shredded coconut is included, and it will always be visible as a topping as well. We don't use any other forms of coconut in the bakery, and we take great care to prevent cross-contamination at Sibby’s Cupcakery. If you’d like your coconut cupcakes boxed separately, please let us know when you place your order.

No. Our gluten-free cupcakes are made with gluten-free ingredients, but we are not a completely gluten-free bakery. We take great care to avoid cross-contamination, but because we do use wheat flour in our bakery, we don’t recommend our cupcakes for individuals with severe wheat allergies or celiac disease.

Minis: $39 per dozen ($3.25 each).

Regulars: $54 per dozen ($4.50 each).

Jumbos: $13.50 each.

Our Signature and Classic decorations are complimentary. Our Signature decorations are unique to each flavor and are perfect for any occasion! Our Classic decoration themes are for popular occasions including birthdays, baby/bridal showers, graduations and traditional holidays.

For custom themes and custom-printed edible fondant discs, there is a minimum decoration fee of $12 per dozen. More complex designs may incur additional decoration fees.

1 dozen cupcakes (any size).

Possibly! Our online ordering platform requires 48 hours advance notice and has some other restrictions, so for same-day and next-day orders, or for any dates that are grayed out, please call us at 415-613-4373 to double-check availability.

Yes, please do! Unfortunately, due to current COVID-19 restrictions, we are aren't able to have customers inside the bakery, but cupcakes are available for curbside pickup. We have sampler boxes of 1 dozen minis and individual cupcakes available for purchase Wednesday through Sunday when we open at 10am. We recommend calling in advance to confirm flavors and availability, and we can even build a box for you over the phone with a credit card payment.

We have individual cupcakes for sale daily on a first-come, first-served basis (occasionally we do sell out). For advance and personalized/custom orders, we bake specific flavors by the half dozen, or you can order the Sibby’s Sampler, which is an assortment of 6 flavors per dozen that changes each month. Jumbo cupcakes can be ordered on their own (minimum order: 2 jumbos), and as add-ons to orders of minis or regulars (minimum mini order: 1 dozen, minimum regular order: half dozen).

The Sibby’s Sampler changes monthly and is a 6-flavor assortment of some of our most popular cupcakes, along with our special Flavors of the Month. Visit the Order section of our website to see a photo and description of our current Sampler. If you're placing an order for a future month, we'll let you know what flavors will most likely be included. Please note that our Sibby’s Sampler is NOT gluten-free.

Our Sampler assortment is a pre-set mix that changes monthly. While we can’t guarantee substitutions, we can exclude one flavor in the Sampler. Let us know if you’re craving a specific flavor, and we'll do our best to include it.

We offer regular-sized cupcakes by the half dozen. Mini cupcakes are sold by the full dozen, but flavors can be split by the half dozen.

The cupcakes need to be kept at a cool room temperature, but don't need refrigeration. Our cupcakes should be enjoyed at room temperature.

All of our cupcakes are baked fresh each morning. We refrigerate them briefly to set the frosting and to aid in transporting them from our bakery to your destination. Once you pick up your cupcakes, you don't need to refrigerate them again. Our cupcakes should be enjoyed at room temperature.

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, we are not currently renting stands.

Unfortunately, we can’t reserve space on our schedule until an order is placed. Customers are welcome to place an order and adjust quantities and flavors up until noon the day before delivery or pickup.

For Monday and Tuesday events, we suggest picking up your cupcakes on Sunday. If you’d like, we can wrap the boxes in plastic wrap to keep them extra fresh until the day of your event.

For Monday events, just leave the boxes out at a cool room temperature and they will still be delicious the next day.

For Tuesday events, we recommend freezing your plastic-wrapped boxes until a few hours before your event.

Yes, our cupcakes freeze well! For the best results when freezing, place your cupcakes in Tupperware, or wrap the whole pink bakery box twice with plastic wrap, being careful not to tip the box while wrapping, and place directly into the freezer. Remove the cupcakes from the freezer 2 to 3 hours before serving to allow adequate time for defrosting. Then, carefully unwrap the plastic and enjoy!

Our cupcakes are best enjoyed within 2 days of purchase, but often stay moist longer if stored in an airtight cake stand or Tupperware at a cool room temperature.

Yes! While we don’t have a dine-in space, you're always welcome to stop by our bakery in downtown San Mateo during business hours to place an order, grab some cupcakes, or just say hi!

We don’t frost the cupcakes to create a cupcake cake (where it looks like a cake but it’s actually cupcakes hiding under a layer of frosting). It gets really messy.

Sibby’s Cupcakery is committed to giving back to our Bay Area community and to those in need. Please submit a written proposal via mail or to donations@sibbyscupcakery.com, and we'll get back to you. We review written donation requests on the first of each month.
